For more than ten years, OOFOS has worked to support individuals and families impacted by breast cancer while contributing to efforts focused on cancer research and patient care. What started with a personal connection to the disease eventually became Project Pink, a continuing initiative centered on community involvement, fundraising, and support for organizations dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by breast cancer. Through charitable partnerships, special campaigns, community activities, and dedicated footwear collections, OOFOS has helped direct significant financial support toward cancer-related organizations and research programs.
The origins of Project Pink are closely connected to Duncan, a member of the OOFOS community whose personal experience with breast cancer had a lasting impact on the company. Before her diagnosis, Duncan was familiar with the physical and mental demands of endurance sports. As a marathon runner and cyclist with experience in the athletic industry, she understood the importance of persistence, preparation, and continuing forward through challenging circumstances. Her experience with cancer brought a new perspective to those ideas and influenced the way OOFOS approached its commitment to recovery and community support.
In October 2014, Duncan received a stage four breast cancer diagnosis. Throughout her experience, she continued to approach life with determination and an emphasis on making the most of each day. Her attitude had a meaningful influence on colleagues, friends, and members of the OOFOS community. Rather than allowing her circumstances to become the sole definition of her story, she demonstrated a strong commitment to moving forward and supporting the people around her. Her experience became the inspiration for a company-wide effort that would eventually develop into Project Pink.
Project Pink was established in 2015 in Duncan’s honor. The initiative began with the goal of helping provide financial resources for breast cancer research and patient support. One of its early partnerships involved Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, organizations dedicated to cancer treatment, research, and patient care. From the beginning, the initiative was intended to be more than a short-term awareness campaign. OOFOS sought to create a continuing program through which customers, employees, athletes, and supporters could participate in fundraising and help contribute to longer-term efforts addressing breast cancer.
As Project Pink developed, the initiative expanded through charitable donations, special product releases, community activities, and partnerships with cancer-focused organizations. One important part of the program has been OOFOS participation in the Pan-Mass Challenge, a cycling event that raises funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. OOFOS employees and supporters have participated as members of Team Duncan, helping connect the company’s community with an event that combines endurance activity and fundraising.
Team Duncan has become an important part of the Project Pink story. Employees, athletes, and other participants come together through cycling to recognize Duncan’s experience and contribute to the larger fundraising effort. The annual event also reflects the connection between OOFOS’s roots in active recovery and the broader idea of using movement and community participation to support an important cause.
Project Pink’s reach has extended beyond the United States as well. OOFOS has supported cancer organizations in other countries, including The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. By working with organizations in different regions, the initiative has broadened its charitable focus and provided support to institutions involved in cancer research, treatment, patient services, and related programs.
Duncan passed away in May 2019 after living with breast cancer. Although she is no longer with the OOFOS community, the principles associated with her story continue to influence Project Pink. Her experience remains connected to the initiative’s emphasis on perseverance, compassion, community, and meaningful action. Project Pink serves as an ongoing way to recognize her impact while continuing to provide support to organizations working in the field of breast cancer.
Fundraising remains an important part of the initiative. Over the years, Project Pink has helped generate millions of dollars in contributions for cancer-focused organizations. These fundraising achievements have been made possible through the combined participation of customers, OOFOS employees, athletes, charitable partners, healthcare professionals, and members of the wider community. Individual purchases and donations may appear small on their own, but together they can form a larger source of support for research and patient-focused programs.
Special Project Pink footwear collections provide another opportunity for customers to participate. For qualifying Project Pink products purchased through OOFOS online channels, a specified portion of the proceeds is directed toward breast cancer research. OOFOS also contributes through its broader donation efforts associated with eligible purchases and charitable programs. These collections allow customers to select OOFOS recovery footwear while simultaneously participating in an initiative connected to breast cancer research and support.
The Project Pink collection also reflects the relationship between OOFOS products and the company’s broader philosophy surrounding recovery. OOFOS was created with a focus on helping people experience comfortable movement and recovery, and Project Pink extends that concept into a community-focused effort. The initiative recognizes that recovery can involve more than physical comfort. For people affected by serious illness, recovery can also involve medical care, emotional support, research, family involvement, and access to resources.
Project Pink continues through charitable giving, fundraising activities, product programs, partnerships, and community participation. Its purpose is to help direct resources toward organizations that are working to advance breast cancer research and provide meaningful support for patients and families. The initiative also provides a way for members of the OOFOS community to participate in something that extends beyond everyday footwear.
Every campaign and contribution represents the involvement of people who choose to support the cause in different ways. Customers may participate by purchasing qualifying Project Pink products, while employees and athletes may become involved through fundraising events or community activities. Organizations and research institutions contribute through their work in treatment, scientific investigation, patient services, and cancer education. Together, these efforts form the continuing foundation of Project Pink.
The initiative remains connected to the idea that meaningful progress can come from sustained participation. Research programs require continued resources, patients and families benefit from ongoing support, and communities can play an important role in maintaining awareness around serious health challenges. Project Pink is designed to provide continuing support rather than treating breast cancer awareness as a single event or seasonal campaign.
OOFOS continues to recognize the patients, families, caregivers, researchers, medical professionals, athletes, employees, and supporters who have contributed to the Project Pink community. Their participation helps maintain the initiative and supports organizations working toward advances in breast cancer research and care.
Project Pink represents a long-term commitment shaped by a personal story and carried forward through collective action. What began with Duncan’s experience became an initiative involving charitable organizations, customers, employees, and communities in multiple locations. Through continued fundraising and product-based giving, OOFOS seeks to keep that commitment active and provide ongoing support for efforts addressing breast cancer.
